About Me

I was born in the town of Kaikohe and raised in Okaihau, both in the Bay of Islands district of Northland, New Zealand.  I schooled and worked in the same area.  Rediscovering my lifetime passion for art after a 27 year break from formal schooling and study, I returned to school, at Bay of Islands College as an adult student, succeeding with my study, which lead to being nominated for, and awarded the Hundertwasser Memorial Scholarship, by the Kawakawa Community Board.  This enabled me to begin part time study with The Learning Connexion, (Wellington) in the Foundation Course for the Diploma of Art and Creativity.

While working on the foundation course, I applied for and was accepted for the "Second Chance Study Award" by the Business and Professional Women's Organization, Kerikeri branch, which enabled  my continued part time studies with The Learning Connexion.   I completed the Diploma of Art and Creativity (Hons) in 2009 and was elated to receive my Diploma in 2010!

I have exhibited solo twice, my first at Whare Toi Tangata Gallery in the small township of Moerewa and a second at Williams House Gallery (the public library), Paihia.  I've also had my works in combined exhibitions in Kawakawa and displayed from time to time at the request of various organizations.  I have donated works for auction to various organizations I support, who fund raise to continue their own work in the community.  I have works in private homes in America and New Zealand.

In Kawakawa, my 3 dimensional work can be seen opposite the Hundertwasser building outside The Trainspotter Cafe, where a series of 144 individually hand carved tiles are inset in the footpath and my designs also adorn 2 of 5 bronze bollards protecting a paved area which marked the beginning of a community initiative in Kawakawa to beautify the township, complimenting not only the Hundertwasser building but the cultural diversity of Kawakawa.

My work marks a personal and enduring relationship with my environment, art, and it's creative expression forged in the 1970's, and rebirthed in 2000.
